5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |

7 | 8 | | of Oscar Garza of Mission, who passed away on December 22, 2016, at |

8 | 9 | | the age of 59; and |

9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Oscar Garza was born to Hermenegildo and Concepción |

10 | 11 | | Garza on August 12, 1957, in Gilroy, California; the youngest of |
---|
11 | 12 | | nine children, he spent his formative years in McFarland, |
---|
12 | 13 | | California, working in the fields with his parents and siblings; |
---|
13 | 14 | | his family moved to Texas when he was 15, and he attended Mission |
---|
14 | 15 | | High School, where he was an accomplished athlete; throughout his |
---|
15 | 16 | | time in school, he helped his father on the ranch, and during the |
---|
16 | 17 | | summers, he worked as a longshoreman in Galveston; and |
---|
17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Garza graduated in 1976 and went on to find |
---|
18 | 19 | | success as a rancher and businessman; his company, Real Estate |
---|
19 | 20 | | Investments, operated branches in Mission and McAllen, and he also |
---|
20 | 21 | | owned the Cabrito Market in Palmview; active in his community, he |
---|
21 | 22 | | served as president of the Hidalgo County Irrigation District No. 6 |
---|
22 | 23 | | Board of Directors; and |
---|
23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Valuing his family above all else, Mr. Garza was a |
---|
24 | 25 | | devoted husband to his wife of 34 years, Norie, and he took great |
---|
25 | 26 | | pride in their four children, Carina, Aissa, Oscar, and Alyna, and |
---|
26 | 27 | | their three grandsons, Josiah, Isai, and Cristian; in his spare |
---|
27 | 28 | | time, Mr. Garza enjoyed visiting the Rio Grande, where he would |
---|
28 | 29 | | watch the sun rise and reflect with gratitude on his many blessings; |
---|

---|
30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Admired for his dedication to his family, his |
---|
31 | 32 | | youthful spirit, and his strong work ethic, Oscar Garza treasured |
---|
32 | 33 | | the richness that each day brought, and he will long be remembered |

33 | 34 | | with deep affection by all who had the good fortune to know him; |

35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

36 | 37 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Oscar Garza and extend |
