6 | 7 | | memories of Oscar Gilbert Kozlowski of Kyle, who died on September |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Oscar Kozlowski was born in Hinsdale, Illinois, on |

9 | 10 | | April 3, 1987, to Konrad and Grazyna Kozlowski, and he and his older |
---|
10 | 11 | | brother, Aaron, grew up in Dublin, California; after graduating |
---|
11 | 12 | | from high school in 2005, he answered his nation's call to duty |
---|
12 | 13 | | during Operation Iraqi Freedom and enlisted in the U.S. Marine |
---|
13 | 14 | | Corps; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Trained at the U.S. Army Chemical School, Corporal |
---|
15 | 16 | | Kozlowski served as a chemical, biological, radiological, and |
---|
16 | 17 | | nuclear (CBRN) specialist with Combat Logistics Regiment 37 in |
---|
17 | 18 | | Futenma, Japan, instructing other marines in CBRN defense and |
---|
18 | 19 | | decontamination techniques, and he received commendations for his |
---|
19 | 20 | | superior performance with Combat Logistics Battalion 4, 2nd Marine |
---|
20 | 21 | | Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Corporal Kozlowski also worked tirelessly to train |

22 | 23 | | the 700 members of Combat Logistics Battalion 4, Combat Logistics |

23 | 24 | | Regiment 3, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, during the Mojave Viper |

24 | 25 | | exercises before their deployment to Iraq, and he served as a |

25 | 26 | | defense specialist and translator during a tour of duty in Moldova; |

26 | 27 | | his commendations included the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement |

27 | 28 | | Medal and the Good Conduct Medal; and |

28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, After returning to civilian life, Mr. Kozlowski |

29 | 30 | | moved to Kyle and majored in chemistry at Texas State University, |

30 | 31 | | where he participated in many student organizations and encouraged |
---|
31 | 32 | | his fellow veterans to pursue higher education; in his free time, he |
---|
32 | 33 | | enjoyed playing the piano and composing music; he was engaged to a |
---|
33 | 34 | | fellow TSU student, Bianca Beronio, and he was the proud father of a |
---|
34 | 35 | | son, Tyler; in December 2015, he was posthumously awarded a |
---|
35 | 36 | | bachelor's degree in chemistry; and |
---|
36 | 37 | | WHEREAS, A devoted family man, a proud United States Marine, |
---|
37 | 38 | | and a self-proclaimed "born again Texan," Oscar Kozlowski embodied |
---|
38 | 39 | | the virtues of righteousness, empathy for others, and devotion to |
---|
39 | 40 | | duty, and he leaves behind an example of compassion and kindness |
---|
40 | 41 | | that will continue to inspire all those who knew and loved him; now, |
---|
41 | 42 | | therefore, be it |

42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

43 | 44 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Oscar Gilbert |

44 | 45 | | Kozlowski and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and many |
