5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Hispanic Women's Network of Texas is marking 31 |

7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Hispanic Women's Network of Texas is a statewide |

8 | 9 | | organization made up of individuals from diverse backgrounds who |
---|
9 | 10 | | share a commitment to promoting the participation of women in |
---|
10 | 11 | | public, corporate, and civic life; members of HWNT seek to advance |
---|
11 | 12 | | the educational, cultural, social, legal, and economic well-being |
---|
12 | 13 | | of all women while also celebrating and fostering a positive image |
---|
13 | 14 | | of Hispanic culture across the state; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The idea for the network originated in 1986 when |
---|
15 | 16 | | several area leaders came together to discuss the need for such an |
---|
16 | 17 | | organization; their efforts culminated in a 1987 conference in |
---|
17 | 18 | | Dallas that drew a contingent of 200 women from every geographic |
---|
18 | 19 | | area of Texas, who pledged to continue to work to address issues of |
---|
19 | 20 | | import to Hispanic women; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Since the group's founding, it has supported a range |
---|
21 | 22 | | of important initiatives, including educational and mentoring |
---|
22 | 23 | | programs, the Women's Right to Vote Celebration, the Hispanic |
---|
23 | 24 | | Summit and Emerging Leaders Conference, the HWNT State Conference, |
---|
24 | 25 | | and various achievement awards and ceremonies; the organization now |
---|
25 | 26 | | has chapters in Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Denton, El Paso, |
---|
26 | 27 | | Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, the Rio Grande Valley, and South |
---|
27 | 28 | | Texas, as well as a student chapter at The University of Texas at |
---|
28 | 29 | | Austin; and |
---|
29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas are |
---|
30 | 31 | | united in the goal of building a brighter future for Hispanic women |
---|
31 | 32 | | in the Lone Star State, and they are indeed deserving of |
---|
32 | 33 | | commendation for their many good works; now, therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
---|
34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 31st anniversary of the Hispanic |
---|
35 | 36 | | Women's Network of Texas and extend to its members sincere best |
---|
36 | 37 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |

37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
