 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Amber Rhodes, a senior at Live Oak Classical School
 in Waco, has been named a Commended Student by the National Merit
 Scholarship Program; and
 WHEREAS, Established in 1955, the National Merit program is a
 prestigious academic competition for recognition and scholarships;
 students qualify for honors under the program by achieving top
 scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship
 Qualifying Test; of the 1.6 million students who take the test each
 year, only about 34,000 receive Letters of Commendation; and
 WHEREAS, The daughter of proud parents Brett and Grace
 Rhodes, Ms. Rhodes has served as parliamentarian of the National
 Honor Society, as a class representative in student government, and
 as a member of the Link Crew and the spiritual council; moreover,
 she earned the distinction of becoming the first student from the
 school to earn placement in a Texas Music Educators Association
 All-State choir, and she has received district and state-level
 All-Star cast recognition in the University Interscholastic League
 One-Act Play Contest and finalist honors in the Congressional Art
 Competition and the Texas Association of Private and Parochial
 Schools State Art Competition; a gifted athlete as well, she has
 lettered in cross country, tennis, and volleyball; outside of
 school, she is a valued congregant at Harris Creek Baptist Church,
 where she serves as a youth worship leader, and she also volunteers
 with Kids Eat Free and Be a Santa to a Senior; and
 WHEREAS, The achievements of Amber Rhodes are a source of
 great pride to her family and her school, and her hard work and
 pursuit of excellence give promise of a bright and rewarding
 future; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Amber Rhodes on her selection as a
 Commended Student by the National Merit Scholarship Program and
 extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Rhodes as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
