45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Barbara Hart Nicholson of Abilene on January 23, 2017, at
78 the age of 79; and
89 WHEREAS, The youngest of five children, the former Barbara
910 Hart was born to H. E. and Charlotte Hart in Dallas on March 23,
1011 1937; she graduated from Abilene High School in 1955 and
1112 subsequently earned a bachelor's degree in business education from
1213 Abilene Christian College; while an undergraduate, she met the love
1314 of her life, Randy Nicholson, and they were joined in matrimony on
1415 November 18, 1957; over the course of nearly six decades of
1516 marriage, the couple were blessed with a fine family that included
1617 their daughter, Randa, their son-in-law, Jeff, and their grandson,
1718 Braden; and
1819 WHEREAS, Mrs. Nicholson served as an instructor of typing,
1920 bookkeeping, and shorthand at Anson High School before being hired
2021 as chair of the business department at O. H. Cooper High School in
2122 Abilene, where she taught for five years; after the birth of her
2223 daughter in 1966, she devoted herself full-time to her home and her
2324 family; and
2425 WHEREAS, A gifted vocalist, Ms. Nicholson performed in vocal
2526 ensembles throughout high school and college, and she later sang
2627 with the Abilene Christian University Alumni Chorus and the choir
2728 at her local church; she also took great delight in painting, and
2829 her artworks became cherished gifts to her loved ones; in addition,
2930 she expressed her deep patriotism by organizing the Helping Our
3031 Heroes ministry, which ships care packages to members of the U.S.
3132 armed forces overseas, and she gave generously of her time
3233 coordinating luncheons for widows and widowers at Highland,
3334 University, and Oldham Lane Churches of Christ; and
3435 WHEREAS, Barbara Nicholson was a devoted wife and mother and
3536 a beloved member of her community, and though this vibrant,
3637 gracious woman will be deeply missed, she leaves behind a record of
3738 service that her loved ones can remember with pride; now,
3839 therefore, be it
3940 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
4041 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Barbara Hart
4142 Nicholson and extend sincere condolences to the members of her
4243 family and to her many friends; and, be it further
4344 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4445 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4546 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Barbara
4647 Nicholson.
