5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | passing of Barbara Hart Nicholson of Abilene on January 23, 2017, at |

7 | 8 | | the age of 79; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The youngest of five children, the former Barbara |
---|
9 | 10 | | Hart was born to H. E. and Charlotte Hart in Dallas on March 23, |
---|
10 | 11 | | 1937; she graduated from Abilene High School in 1955 and |
---|
11 | 12 | | subsequently earned a bachelor's degree in business education from |
---|
12 | 13 | | Abilene Christian College; while an undergraduate, she met the love |
---|
13 | 14 | | of her life, Randy Nicholson, and they were joined in matrimony on |
---|
14 | 15 | | November 18, 1957; over the course of nearly six decades of |
---|
15 | 16 | | marriage, the couple were blessed with a fine family that included |
---|
16 | 17 | | their daughter, Randa, their son-in-law, Jeff, and their grandson, |
---|
17 | 18 | | Braden; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Nicholson served as an instructor of typing, |
---|
19 | 20 | | bookkeeping, and shorthand at Anson High School before being hired |
---|
20 | 21 | | as chair of the business department at O. H. Cooper High School in |
---|
21 | 22 | | Abilene, where she taught for five years; after the birth of her |
---|
22 | 23 | | daughter in 1966, she devoted herself full-time to her home and her |
---|
23 | 24 | | family; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, A gifted vocalist, Ms. Nicholson performed in vocal |
---|
25 | 26 | | ensembles throughout high school and college, and she later sang |
---|
26 | 27 | | with the Abilene Christian University Alumni Chorus and the choir |
---|
27 | 28 | | at her local church; she also took great delight in painting, and |
---|
28 | 29 | | her artworks became cherished gifts to her loved ones; in addition, |
---|
29 | 30 | | she expressed her deep patriotism by organizing the Helping Our |
---|
30 | 31 | | Heroes ministry, which ships care packages to members of the U.S. |
---|
31 | 32 | | armed forces overseas, and she gave generously of her time |
---|
32 | 33 | | coordinating luncheons for widows and widowers at Highland, |
---|
33 | 34 | | University, and Oldham Lane Churches of Christ; and |
---|
34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Barbara Nicholson was a devoted wife and mother and |
---|
35 | 36 | | a beloved member of her community, and though this vibrant, |
---|
36 | 37 | | gracious woman will be deeply missed, she leaves behind a record of |
---|
37 | 38 | | service that her loved ones can remember with pride; now, |
---|
38 | 39 | | therefore, be it |

39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
---|
40 | 41 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Barbara Hart |

41 | 42 | | Nicholson and extend sincere condolences to the members of her |
---|
42 | 43 | | family and to her many friends; and, be it further |
---|
43 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

44 | 45 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |

45 | 46 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Barbara |
