45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Larson Hanks of Vernon High School reached the
67 pinnacle of high school wrestling success by capturing the Class 5A
78 state title in the 182-pound weight division at the University
89 Interscholastic League Wrestling State Tournament, held in Cypress
910 on February 24 and 25, 2017; and
1011 WHEREAS, Demonstrating remarkable skill and dedication,
1112 Mr. Hanks bested opponents from College Station, Heritage, and
1213 Waller High Schools in the first three rounds of the competition to
1314 advance to the title match; in that contest, he claimed the 5A crown
1415 by defeating Jay Gonzales of Chisholm Trail High School in a 6-5
1516 triumph; and
1617 WHEREAS, His championship victory capped off a memorable
1718 senior season in which he accumulated an impressive overall record
1819 of 36 wins and just 4 losses and helped Vernon secure seventh place
1920 in the 5A team standings; and
2021 WHEREAS, In proving himself one of the finest high school
2122 wrestlers in Texas, Larson Hanks has realized a well-deserved
2223 reward for his countless hours of hard work, and he may take
2324 justifiable pride in this significant accomplishment; now,
2425 therefore, be it
2526 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2627 Legislature hereby congratulate Larson Hanks on winning the 2017
2728 UIL 5A wrestling state championship in the 182-pound weight class
2829 and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
2930 further
3031 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3132 prepared for Mr. Hanks as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3233 House of Representatives.
