5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Pioneers Youth Leadership is helping many Texas |

6 | 7 | | students acquire the tools they will need to serve as leaders in |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 2012, the nonprofit organization |
---|
9 | 10 | | combines classroom study with extracurricular events in a |

10 | 11 | | learning-through-action civic engagement program; the program |
---|
11 | 12 | | currently serves more than 300 students in 17 counties; and |
---|
12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, On January 18 and 19, 2017, participants attended |
---|
13 | 14 | | the State Leadership Forum at the Capitol, where they met with state |
---|
14 | 15 | | lawmakers and discussed some of today's most relevant public policy |
---|
15 | 16 | | topics, including technology in the classroom, access to health and |
---|
16 | 17 | | mental health care, water usage and conservation, immigration, and |
---|
17 | 18 | | education quality; in addition, students attended workshops and |
---|
18 | 19 | | presented their own ideas to staff from various state agencies |
---|
19 | 20 | | during the two-day event; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Through its ongoing efforts to encourage young |

21 | 22 | | Texans to become positive change agents in their communities, |

22 | 23 | | Pioneers Youth Leadership is helping to create a brighter and more |

23 | 24 | | promising future for the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
---|
24 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

25 | 26 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the Pioneers Youth Leadership 2017 |

26 | 27 | | State Leadership Forum and recognize the organization for its |

27 | 28 | | contributions to the education of our young people; and, be it |

29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
