45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Pioneers Youth Leadership is helping many Texas
67 students acquire the tools they will need to serve as leaders in
78 their communities; and
89 WHEREAS, Founded in 2012, the nonprofit organization
910 combines classroom study with extracurricular events in a
1011 learning-through-action civic engagement program; the program
1112 currently serves more than 300 students in 17 counties; and
1213 WHEREAS, On January 18 and 19, 2017, participants attended
1314 the State Leadership Forum at the Capitol, where they met with state
1415 lawmakers and discussed some of today's most relevant public policy
1516 topics, including technology in the classroom, access to health and
1617 mental health care, water usage and conservation, immigration, and
1718 education quality; in addition, students attended workshops and
1819 presented their own ideas to staff from various state agencies
1920 during the two-day event; and
2021 WHEREAS, Through its ongoing efforts to encourage young
2122 Texans to become positive change agents in their communities,
2223 Pioneers Youth Leadership is helping to create a brighter and more
2324 promising future for the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
2425 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2526 Legislature hereby commemorate the Pioneers Youth Leadership 2017
2627 State Leadership Forum and recognize the organization for its
2728 contributions to the education of our young people; and, be it
2829 further
2930 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3031 prepared for Pioneers Youth Leadership as an expression of high
3132 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
