| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Forestry Association is sponsoring a |

| 6 | 7 | | seedling giveaway on March 1, 2017, in an effort to promote public |

| 7 | 8 | | awareness of working forests and the importance of our state's |

| 8 | 9 | | timber resources; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Each year, family forest owners and corporate |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | landowners plant 75 million seedlings to help maintain sustainable |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | forests for future generations of Texans; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The forest sector in East Texas covers 12 million |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | acres and generates more than 138,000 jobs, $8.1 billion in annual |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | labor income, and a total economic impact of over $31.9 billion, |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | making timber a valuable agricultural commodity statewide; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1914 by a group of dedicated |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | conservationists, the Texas Forestry Association is a nonprofit |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | organization of some 3,000 landowners, business leaders, and other |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | professionals united by a common goal to advance forestry, promote |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | conservation practices, and support and protect the interests of |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | the working forests of Texas; TFA offers programs such as the |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Sustainable Forestry Initiative and Tree Farm certifications to |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | educate the public and encourage reforestation, with the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | understanding that best management practices are essential for |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | productive forests; and |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Forestry Association has tirelessly |

| 27 | 28 | | worked to ensure that abundant forests remain a dependable resource |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | for the citizens of Texas, and under the able leadership of current |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | president Dr. Jerry Marcontell, TFA will undoubtedly continue to |

| 30 | 31 | | contribute to the economic vitality and beauty of the Lone Star |

| 31 | 32 | | State; now, therefore, be it |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby recognize the Texas Forestry Association on the |

| 34 | 35 | | occasion of its seedling giveaway and commend the association's |
