 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Andrea Taylor of Corpus Christi is being awarded a
 2017-2018 Joe A. Gonzalez (JAG) Education Is Our Freedom GED
 College Scholarship; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Taylor attends Del Mar College, where she is
 studying chemistry; and
 WHEREAS, The Education Is Our Freedom scholarship program was
 founded by Joe Gonzalez, a longtime public servant and advocate for
 education; Mr. Gonzalez is currently serving his second term as
 Nueces County commissioner for Precinct 2, having first been
 elected to that office in 2010; he previously worked for more than
 two decades with the United States Department of Justice, and after
 retiring from the DOJ in 1999, he spent nine years as justice of the
 peace for Precinct 1, Place 1, in Nueces County; he created the
 Education Is Our Freedom program in memory of the late Drs. Hector
 P. Garcia, Cleo Garcia, and Xico Garcia, and since its
 establishment in 2005, some 1,165 scholarships have been awarded;
 and
 WHEREAS, A most deserving recipient, Andrea Taylor is
 demonstrating impressive drive and ability as she works toward her
 scholastic and personal goals, and she may indeed look forward to a
 future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Andrea Taylor on her receipt of a
 Joe A. Gonzalez (JAG) Education Is Our Freedom GED College
 Scholarship and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
 success in all her endeavors; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Taylor as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
