| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Founded on Independence Day in 1904, Kingsville is |

| 9 | 10 | | an important center of higher education in South Texas; Texas A&M |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | University--Kingsville, which opened as South Texas Teachers |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | College in 1925, includes the Frank H. Dotterweich College of |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Engineering, the Dick and Mary Lewis Kleberg College of |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Agriculture, the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute, and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | the Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy; the university has |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | claimed seven national football championships and has been |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | recognized for its excellent environmental engineering program, |

| 21 | 22 | | national defense; the base is also home to an Army Reserve Medical |

| 22 | 23 | | Evacuation unit and an Armed Forces Reserve Center, and a |

| 23 | 24 | | U.S. Border Patrol facility is situated nearby; and |

| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Kingsville, along with the rest of Kleberg County, |

| 25 | 26 | | is a place of diversified industries; thanks to the presence of |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | companies producing oil, gas, nuclear, wind, and solar power, the |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | area's economy has continued to grow, resulting in new jobs and an |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | improved quality of life for residents; among the businesses based |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | in Kingsville are Proco, Inc., and Texas Cementing Services; and |

| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, The visitor center, museum, and saddle shop for the |

| 31 | 32 | | world famous King Ranch are located in Kingsville; larger than |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | Rhode Island, King Ranch covers 825,000 acres of South Texas land |

| 33 | 34 | | and is known for developing the Santa Gertrudis cattle breed; the |

| 34 | 35 | | ranch is also highly respected for horse breeding and agribusiness; |

| 36 | 37 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of Kingsville are working to preserve |

| 38 | 39 | | opportunity, and they may take great pride in the role their |

| 39 | 40 | | community has played in the story of the Lone Star State; now, |

| 41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 42 | 43 | | Legislature hereby recognize January 31, 2017, as Kingsville Day at |
