| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Norma Linda Trevino Elementary School in Edinburg |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program was created |

| 10 | 11 | | by the U.S. Department of Education in 1982 to recognize campuses |

| 11 | 12 | | that have demonstrated superior academic performance or made |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | notable progress in improving outcomes among economically |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | disadvantaged students; Trevino Elementary was one of only 330 |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | public and private schools nationwide and 29 schools in Texas to |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | have earned this impressive honor in 2016; and |

| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Part of the Edinburg Consolidated Independent |

| 17 | 18 | | School District, Trevino Elementary serves more than 550 students |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | in early education programs through the fifth grade; the school's |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | faculty and staff, ably led by principal Cynthia Saenz, place an |

| 20 | 21 | | emphasis on providing pupils with a comprehensive learning |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | experience that exposes them to a range of technologies while also |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | building strong literary skills; in addition, students benefit from |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | the campus's music and physical education programs as well as a |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | number of community service opportunities that help them develop a |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | strong sense of compassion; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Through dedication, hard work, and perseverance, |

| 27 | 28 | | the teachers and students of Trevino Elementary have established a |

| 28 | 29 | | record of scholastic excellence, and their outstanding efforts have |
