45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Theater arts students from Tuloso-Midway High
67 School in Corpus Christi placed first in the University
78 Interscholastic League District 30-5A One-Act Play competition,
89 held on March 3-4, 2017; and
910 WHEREAS, The students staged The Kentucky Cycle: Fire in the
1011 Hole, by Robert Schenkkan; directed by drama teacher Wendy Pratt,
1112 Curtis Ashby, and Lyn Esquivel, the cast and crew impressed the
1213 judges with their presentation of the 1920s period piece, which
1314 tells the story of the Rowen family and their fellow coal miners
1415 striking against the Blue Star Mining Company; and
1516 WHEREAS, In addition to taking the top prize, the group also
1617 earned several individual accolades: Reyna Rodriguez and Rocky
1718 Ramirez were named Best Actress and Best Actor, respectively; James
1819 Meyer garnered the All-Star Cast award; Kelsey Pierce and Elyse
1920 Herrera received honorable mentions; and Emily Findeisen was
2021 recognized as the Best Overall Technician; and
2122 WHEREAS, These outstanding young Texans have demonstrated
2223 remarkable talent and dedication, and they may indeed take pride in
2324 this noteworthy achievement; now, therefore, be it
2425 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2526 Legislature hereby congratulate the Tuloso-Midway High School
2627 theater arts students on winning first place in the UIL District
2728 30-5A One-Act Play competition and extend to them sincere best
2829 wishes for continued success; and, be it further
2930 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3031 prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3132 House of Representatives.
