R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, After a 21-year hiatus, the famed Breckenridge
Airshow is being revived by the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce
and Ezell Aviation on May 27 and 28, 2017; and
WHEREAS, The original air show was started in 1977 by
Breckenridge native Howard Pardue, a former Marine Corps fighter
pilot who went on to a successful career as an air-show performer
and air-race pilot; featuring aerial stunts and vintage aircraft,
the first version of the air show ran for 19 years, ending in 1996;
and
WHEREAS, The new Breckenridge Airshow is being sponsored by
the chamber of commerce and staged by Ezell Aviation, a local
company that specializes in the restoration of historic military
aircraft, or "war birds"; and
WHEREAS, Participants in the 20th edition of the air show
will include pilots Stewart Dawson, Carl Best, and David Martin, as
well as the Texas Flying Legends Museum, the Mid America Flight
Museum, Lewis Air Legends, the Cavanaugh Flight Museum, and
Comanche Fighters; the historic aircraft on display will include
the B-17 Flying Fortress and B-25 Mitchell bombers, the P-51
Mustang and P-40 Warhawk fighters, and the Japanese Zero; and
WHEREAS, The highlight of the air show will be "Tora, Tora,
Tora," a reenactment of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on
December 7, 1941, which will be performed as a living history lesson
and as a memorial to the military personnel who lost their lives;
and
WHEREAS, This thrilling and family-friendly event promises
to delight residents and visitors alike while also contributing to
the local economy, and its return after two decades is truly cause
for celebration; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the 20th Breckenridge Airshow and
extend to its organizers, participants, and guests sincere best
wishes for a meaningful and memorable event; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce and Ezell
Aviation as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
Representatives.
