No. 1873 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Countless lives were touched by the kindness and generosity of Hattie Valerie Elizabeth Marshall of Houston, who passed away on April 17, 2017, at the age of 68; and WHEREAS, The daughter of James and Rolena Marshall, Hattie Marshall was born on August 22, 1948, in Houston, and she grew up with the companionship of four siblings, Sylvia, Elsie, Jeff, and James; a bright and dedicated student, she graduated from Jack Yates Senior High School in 1966 and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Prairie View A&M University; she later received her master's degree from Texas Southern University, where she continued her education as a doctoral student; and WHEREAS, One week after her college graduation, Ms. Marshall accepted a position with the Houston Independent School District and embarked on a rewarding career as an educator and counselor that spanned more than four decades; she was highly supportive of her students, with whom she developed a strong rapport, and she earned the admiration and respect of her colleagues; and WHEREAS, A woman of deep faith, Ms. Marshall was a valued member of the Greater Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church community; and WHEREAS, Hattie Marshall will be remembered for her eloquence, her warmth, and her sense of style, and those who were fortunate enough to have known her will forever hold her close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Hattie Valerie Elizabeth Marshall and extend sincere condolences to her family and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Hattie Marshall.
