45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Countless lives were touched by the kindness and
67 generosity of Hattie Valerie Elizabeth Marshall of Houston, who
78 passed away on April 17, 2017, at the age of 68; and
89 WHEREAS, The daughter of James and Rolena Marshall, Hattie
910 Marshall was born on August 22, 1948, in Houston, and she grew up
1011 with the companionship of four siblings, Sylvia, Elsie, Jeff, and
1112 James; a bright and dedicated student, she graduated from Jack
1213 Yates Senior High School in 1966 and went on to earn a bachelor's
1314 degree from Prairie View A&M University; she later received her
1415 master's degree from Texas Southern University, where she continued
1516 her education as a doctoral student; and
1617 WHEREAS, One week after her college graduation, Ms. Marshall
1718 accepted a position with the Houston Independent School District
1819 and embarked on a rewarding career as an educator and counselor that
1920 spanned more than four decades; she was highly supportive of her
2021 students, with whom she developed a strong rapport, and she earned
2122 the admiration and respect of her colleagues; and
2223 WHEREAS, A woman of deep faith, Ms. Marshall was a valued
2324 member of the Greater Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church
2425 community; and
2526 WHEREAS, Hattie Marshall will be remembered for her
2627 eloquence, her warmth, and her sense of style, and those who were
2728 fortunate enough to have known her will forever hold her close in
2829 their hearts; now, therefore, be it
2930 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3031 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Hattie Valerie
3132 Elizabeth Marshall and extend sincere condolences to her family and
3233 friends; and, be it further
3334 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3435 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
3536 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Hattie
3637 Marshall.
