| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Countless lives were touched by the kindness and |

| 6 | 7 | | generosity of Hattie Valerie Elizabeth Marshall of Houston, who |

| 7 | 8 | | passed away on April 17, 2017, at the age of 68; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of James and Rolena Marshall, Hattie |

| 9 | 10 | | Marshall was born on August 22, 1948, in Houston, and she grew up |

| 10 | 11 | | with the companionship of four siblings, Sylvia, Elsie, Jeff, and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | James; a bright and dedicated student, she graduated from Jack |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Yates Senior High School in 1966 and went on to earn a bachelor's |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | degree from Prairie View A&M University; she later received her |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | master's degree from Texas Southern University, where she continued |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | her education as a doctoral student; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, One week after her college graduation, Ms. Marshall |

| 17 | 18 | | accepted a position with the Houston Independent School District |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | and embarked on a rewarding career as an educator and counselor that |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | spanned more than four decades; she was highly supportive of her |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | students, with whom she developed a strong rapport, and she earned |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | the admiration and respect of her colleagues; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, A woman of deep faith, Ms. Marshall was a valued |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | member of the Greater Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | community; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Hattie Marshall will be remembered for her |

| 26 | 27 | | eloquence, her warmth, and her sense of style, and those who were |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | fortunate enough to have known her will forever hold her close in |

| 28 | 29 | | their hearts; now, therefore, be it |

| 29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
