| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The year 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the |

| 6 | 7 | | founding of the Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital in San Antonio; |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital served all |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | persons who needed it, regardless of their ability to pay, proved |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | invaluable during the influenza epidemic of 1918, and soon after |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | earned recognition for its pioneering specialty care; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, When the voters of Bexar County overwhelmingly |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | approved the creation of the Bexar County Hospital District in |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | 1955, the Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital became the anchor |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | facility for the hospital district's mission to furnish medical aid |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | and hospital care to the indigent and needy persons of Bexar County; |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In 1968, with the construction of a new teaching |

| 19 | 20 | | hospital adjacent to The University of Texas Medical School at San |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Antonio, the Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital was transformed into |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | the hub of the hospital district's growing ambulatory health |

| 22 | 23 | | system, providing advanced imaging, laboratory, and pharmacy |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | services, in addition to primary and specialty clinics; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, In 2008, to continue the legacy of the Robert B. |

| 25 | 26 | | Green Memorial Hospital, the Bexar County commissioners approved |

| 26 | 27 | | the issuance of certificates of obligation to support the |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | construction of a new state-of-the-art ambulatory services |

| 28 | 29 | | pavilion adjacent to the historic facility; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, In January 2013, a new 269,000-square-foot, |

| 30 | 31 | | six-story Clinical Pavilion on the historic Robert B. Green Campus |

| 31 | 32 | | opened, featuring urgent care, adult and pediatric primary care and |

| 32 | 33 | | specialty care, comprehensive laboratory services, pharmacy, and |

| 33 | 34 | | imaging diagnostics, including CT, MRI, mammography, x-ray, and |

| 34 | 35 | | ultrasound; and |

| 35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, The Bexar County Hospital District, now doing |

| 36 | 37 | | business as University Health System, is today a nationally |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | recognized academic health center and network of more than 20 |

| 38 | 39 | | primary care, urgent care, specialty, and school-based health |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | centers and is ranked the Best Hospital in San Antonio and No. 6 in |

| 40 | 41 | | Texas by U.S. News & World Report; and |

| 41 | 42 | | WHEREAS, University Health System is an integral partner of |
|---|
| 42 | 43 | | the State of Texas in providing emergency preparedness and trauma |
|---|
| 43 | 44 | | services for South Central Texas at its premier Level I Trauma |
|---|
| 44 | 45 | | Center and the only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in South Texas; |

| 46 | 47 | | WHEREAS, University Health System is the primary partner of |

| 47 | 48 | | UT Health San Antonio for providing graduate medical education and |
|---|
| 48 | 49 | | advancing knowledge and discovery to promote the good health of |

| 49 | 50 | | Texans; and |
|---|
| 50 | 51 | | WHEREAS, This occasion presents a welcome opportunity to |

| 51 | 52 | | recognize the rich historical legacy of the lifesaving mission that |
|---|
| 52 | 53 | | started with the admission of that first patient at the Robert B. |
|---|
| 53 | 54 | | Green Memorial Hospital in February 1917; now, therefore, be it |

| 54 | 55 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 55 | 56 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of the |
|---|
| 56 | 57 | | founding of Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital and commend the board |
|---|
| 57 | 58 | | of managers and leadership of University Health System for their |
|---|
| 58 | 59 | | work in carrying forth the legacy of county judge Robert B. Green |
|---|
| 59 | 60 | | and the Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital; and, be it further |
|---|
| 60 | 61 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 61 | 62 | | Legislature hereby urge the board of managers and leadership of |
|---|
| 62 | 63 | | University Health System to continue the legacy of Judge Green by |
|---|
| 63 | 64 | | providing the highest level of care, service, and compassion to the |
|---|
| 64 | 65 | | people of Bexar County for the next 100 years. |
