| 6 | 7 | | on March 1, 2017, to celebrate Denton County Day at the State |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Located in North Texas and serving as the gateway to |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Denton County was created from the |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Peters colony grant by the Texas Legislature in 1846 and named for |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | pioneer preacher, lawyer, and soldier John Bunyan Denton; the early |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | years of the county saw its emergence as an agricultural center, and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | the arrival of the railroads in the 1880s ensured that the region's |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | wheat and cotton would find distribution across the country; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The county has witnessed remarkable growth in recent |

| 16 | 17 | | years, and with a population of approximately 780,000, Denton is |

| 17 | 18 | | one of the fastest growing counties in the nation; it has drawn a |

| 18 | 19 | | number of corporate residents as well, including Peterbilt Motors |

| 19 | 20 | | Company Manufacturing and the headquarters of Sally Beauty |

| 20 | 21 | | Holdings, and Target and WinCo have opened distribution centers in |

| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The city of Denton, the county seat, is home to the |

| 23 | 24 | | University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University, which were |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | founded as Texas Normal College and Girls' Industrial College in |

| 25 | 26 | | 1890 and 1903, respectively; nearby Corinth hosts a campus of North |

| 26 | 27 | | Central Texas College, which offers technical and occupational |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | classes to residents throughout the county and beyond, and the area |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | is further served by 11 public school districts educating some |
|---|

| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Other attractions in the area include the wilderness |

| 35 | 36 | | sports facility in the United States, the Texas Motor Speedway, |

| 37 | 38 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of this notable North Texas county are |
