| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Jose Perez of the Pharr Fire Department was named |

| 6 | 7 | | Firefighter of the Year by the Rio Grande Valley Firefighter's and |

| 7 | 8 | | Fire Marshals' Association in April 2017; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Each year, the organization recognizes a |

| 9 | 10 | | firefighter who has demonstrated exceptional professional |

| 10 | 11 | | knowledge, creativity and innovation, bravery and heroism, and |

| 11 | 12 | | community involvement; and |

| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A former U.S. Marine, Mr. Perez has served as a |

| 13 | 14 | | firefighter in the Pharr Fire Department for eight years; in |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | addition to performing his regular duties, he has helped make |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | physical fitness training more enjoyable for his fellow |

| 16 | 17 | | firefighters by incorporating boxing exercises into the program; he |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | also volunteers as a youth boxing coach for the Pharr Police |

| 18 | 19 | | Athletic League, and he has donated his time and expertise as a |

| 19 | 20 | | certified electrician to bring a fire victim's home into code |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Jose Perez has earned the respect and admiration of |

| 22 | 23 | | his peers through his commitment to excellence and his dedication |

| 23 | 24 | | to safeguarding the public, and he is indeed deserving of this most |

| 24 | 25 | | recent honor; now, therefore, be it |

| 25 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
