H.R. No. 1943
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Mariachi Oro of McAllen High School distinguished
itself with an exceptional showing at the 2017 University
Interscholastic League State Mariachi Festival on March 10 and 11
in San Antonio; and
WHEREAS, Performing among groups from 72 other schools, the
members of Mariachi Oro displayed great skill, energy, and passion,
becoming one of the 12 schools at the competition to earn Division 1
Superior ratings from all of the contest's judges; in addition,
McAllen was one of only two schools to have each of its members
recognized with the event's highest honor, an Outstanding Performer
Medal; out of more than 1,400 participants, just 51 received this
prestigious award; and
WHEREAS, Guided by directors Alex Treviño and David Moreno,
the accomplished musicians who make up Mariachi Oro include Jared
Hurtado, Anthony Cisneros, Cristian Contreras, Miguel Maciel,
Analee Rodríguez, Destiny Negrete, Brianna Ramos, Kamryn Ramírez,
Alex Treviño, Katherine Pérez, Alan Maciel, Saúl Ruiz, Neri
Fuentes, and Christopher Echavarría; and
WHEREAS, The talented and hardworking members of Mariachi Oro
have proved themselves to be a premier ensemble, and they may take
justifiable pride in their significant achievements; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Mariachi Oro of McAllen High School
on its success at the 2017 University Interscholastic League State
Mariachi Festival and extend to all those associated with the group
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
