| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Ronny Barner is retiring as the minister to senior |

| 6 | 7 | | adults at West University Baptist Church in Houston on May 21, 2017, |

| 7 | 8 | | drawing to a close 55 years of dedicated service to that |

| 8 | 9 | | congregation; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Pastor Barner joined the staff of West University |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Baptist in 1962, after completing his master's degree in church |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | music at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and he has |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | devoted his time, talents, and energies to the congregation ever |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | since; before assuming his present role, he served for 37 years as |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | the minister of music; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Pastor Barner has been blessed |

| 16 | 17 | | with the love and support of his wife, Ruth; the couple are the |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | proud parents of a daughter, Bari Barner Brumfield, and their lives |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | have been further enriched by their four grandchildren and their |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | great-grandchild; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, For more than five decades, this inspiring clergyman |

| 21 | 22 | | has helped lead West University Baptist Church with conviction and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | compassion, and he has earned the lasting respect and admiration of |

| 23 | 24 | | his congregants as well as members of the greater community; now, |

| 25 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 26 | 27 | | Legislature hereby commend Ronny Barner for his service to West |
