45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their
67 memories of William Lewis Black of Spring, who died on April 25,
78 2017, at the age of 75; and
89 WHEREAS, Born in Lexington, Kentucky, on April 12, 1942, Bill
910 Black was a proud alumnus of the University of Kentucky, where he
1011 met his future wife, Mary Lou; the couple were wed in 1964 and
1112 shared a rewarding marriage that spanned more than half a century;
1213 they were blessed with three sons, Andrew, Alan, and James, and they
1314 later welcomed into their family five grandchildren; and
1415 WHEREAS, Mr. Black enjoyed a long and successful career in
1516 civil engineering, and after his retirement, he remained active in
1617 his community; a Northampton resident for more than 35 years, he was
1718 appointed to the board of directors of the Northampton Municipal
1819 Utility District in 1999, and he served for 16 years, leading the
1920 efforts to create West Park, expand the tennis courts, install a
2021 pedestrian bridge along the Inway walking trails, and establish the
2122 new wastewater treatment facility; and
2223 WHEREAS, Mr. Black also mentored young people at Schultz
2324 Elementary School, volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, and took
2425 part in mission work with Klein United Methodist Church; throughout
2526 his life, he remained a loyal fan of the Kentucky Wildcats
2627 basketball team; and
2728 WHEREAS, A devoted family man and a dedicated civic leader,
2829 Bill Black lived a rich and purposeful life, and those he leaves
2930 behind will continue to be inspired by his example; now, therefore,
3031 be it
3132 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3233 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of William Lewis Black
3334 and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his
3435 wife, Mary Lou Black; to his sons, Andrew Black and his wife,
3536 Laurie, Alan Black and his wife, Annmarie, and James Black and his
3637 wife, Tara; to his grandchildren, Victoria, Evan, Caelan, Addison,
3738 and Molly Black; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it
3839 further
3940 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4041 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4142 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bill Black.
