5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their |

6 | 7 | | memories of William Lewis Black of Spring, who died on April 25, |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Lexington, Kentucky, on April 12, 1942, Bill |

9 | 10 | | Black was a proud alumnus of the University of Kentucky, where he |
---|
10 | 11 | | met his future wife, Mary Lou; the couple were wed in 1964 and |
---|
11 | 12 | | shared a rewarding marriage that spanned more than half a century; |
---|
12 | 13 | | they were blessed with three sons, Andrew, Alan, and James, and they |
---|
13 | 14 | | later welcomed into their family five grandchildren; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Black enjoyed a long and successful career in |
---|
15 | 16 | | civil engineering, and after his retirement, he remained active in |
---|
16 | 17 | | his community; a Northampton resident for more than 35 years, he was |
---|
17 | 18 | | appointed to the board of directors of the Northampton Municipal |
---|
18 | 19 | | Utility District in 1999, and he served for 16 years, leading the |
---|
19 | 20 | | efforts to create West Park, expand the tennis courts, install a |
---|
20 | 21 | | pedestrian bridge along the Inway walking trails, and establish the |
---|
21 | 22 | | new wastewater treatment facility; and |
---|
22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Black also mentored young people at Schultz |
---|
23 | 24 | | Elementary School, volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, and took |
---|
24 | 25 | | part in mission work with Klein United Methodist Church; throughout |
---|
25 | 26 | | his life, he remained a loyal fan of the Kentucky Wildcats |
---|
26 | 27 | | basketball team; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A devoted family man and a dedicated civic leader, |

28 | 29 | | Bill Black lived a rich and purposeful life, and those he leaves |
---|
29 | 30 | | behind will continue to be inspired by his example; now, therefore, |

31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

32 | 33 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of William Lewis Black |
