| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Sunset High School of the Dallas Independent School |

| 6 | 7 | | District has been recognized as a Gold Ribbon High School for 2017 |

| 7 | 8 | | by the nonprofit advocacy organization Children at Risk; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, For the past 12 years, Children at Risk has ranked |

| 9 | 10 | | schools across the state as a guide for parents, educators, and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | community members and as a way to inspire dialogue about the quality |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | of public education; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Each school is evaluated according to its STAAR test |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | scores in reading and math, its improvement over time on |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | standardized test scores in English, reading, and math, and its |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | success in preparing students for college; these indicators are |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | adjusted to eliminate bias toward schools with a low percentage of |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | students living in poverty; those traditional neighborhood schools |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | that have a high percentage of economically disadvantaged students |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | and that receive an A or a B in the Children at Risk rankings are |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | designated Gold Ribbon campuses; Sunset High was one of three high |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | schools in North Texas to achieve this honor; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The education of young Texans is a vital enterprise, |

| 23 | 24 | | and the teachers and administrators of Sunset High School may take |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | great pride in their efforts to help their students reach their full |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | potential and become engaged and productive members of their |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | community; now, therefore, be it |

| 27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 28 | 29 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Sunset High School on its |

| 29 | 30 | | recognition as a 2017 Gold Ribbon High School and extend to the |

| 30 | 31 | | school's faculty and staff sincere best wishes for continued |
