| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Haltom City Senior Center is commemorating its |

| 6 | 7 | | 40th year of operation in May 2017, and this occasion provides a |
|---|
| 7 | 8 | | fitting opportunity to recognize this outstanding community |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | resource and those who have contributed to its success; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Built with funds provided by the Federal Community |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Development Act, the Haltom City Senior Center opened on May 8, |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | 1977, under the oversight of Tarrant County; today, seniors from 16 |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | different cities come to enjoy a variety of enriching activities, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | including arts, crafts, fitness, painting, tai chi, bingo, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | quilting, billiards, and computer classes, all of which are taught |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | by senior volunteers; over 200 community partners sponsor events |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | and entertainment for the center, and educational and safety |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | presentations are hosted regularly by the Haltom City Police and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Fire Departments and other organizations; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Through a partnership with the Tarrant Area Food |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Bank and Father's Heart Ministry, the Haltom City Senior Center |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | hosts monthly food distributions for area residents, and it serves |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | as a congregate meal site, providing meals to an average of 89 |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | visitors daily; as a recognized Benefits Enrollment Center, it also |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | has a social worker on site to connect clients with housing, |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | medication, and utility assistance benefits; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The Haltom City Senior Center relies on the hard |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | work of a number of staff and volunteers, and deserving of special |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | recognition for her dedicated service is supervisor Bobbi Arthur, |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | who celebrated her 24th anniversary with the center on April 30; and |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Since its founding, the Haltom City Senior Center |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | has encouraged older Texans in the area to maintain healthy |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | lifestyles and enjoy fulfillment through fellowship and |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | recreation, and it has made a positive and lasting difference in the |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | Haltom City community and beyond; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | Legislature hereby honor the Haltom City Senior Center on its 40th |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | anniversary and extend to all those associated with the program |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |

| 39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 40 | 41 | | prepared for the center as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|---|
