| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

| 6 | 7 | | passing of Sandra Herman Valls of Port Aransas on December 31, 2016, |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Dorothy Sue Herman and Francis L. |

| 9 | 10 | | Herman Jr., the former Sandra Herman was born in Owensboro, |

| 10 | 11 | | Kentucky, on August 21, 1941; she was raised in Ingleside and Corpus |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Christi and graduated from W. B. Ray High School; while attending |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Del Mar College, Ms. Herman met Richard Valls, whom she married on |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | June 17, 1961; the couple became the proud parents of four children, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Linda Marie, Cerise, Richard, and Laurence, and with the passing |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | years, their family grew to include eight treasured grandchildren; |

| 16 | 17 | | and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Valls was instrumental in the success of the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | family businesses, and, after raising her children, she earned a |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | bachelor's degree from Corpus Christi State University; a devout |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Catholic, this esteemed Texan possessed a genuine concern for the |

| 21 | 22 | | welfare of others, which was evident in her active participation in |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | numerous civic and charitable organizations; when she was not busy |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | being a nurturing mother, devoted "Gigi" to her grandchildren, and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | trusted friend, she enjoyed indulging her adventurous spirit and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | passion for learning through travel, reading, and a deep |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | appreciation of art; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share in Sandra Valls's |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | love and friendship will always remember her with great tenderness |

| 29 | 30 | | and affection; now, therefore, be it |

| 30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 31 | 32 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sandra Herman Valls |
