No. 2068 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Micah Bachner has been presented with an Outstanding Award from the Student Support Services--STEM program at Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi; and WHEREAS, The SSS-STEM program is part of the university's Programs for Academic Student Support (PASS) initiative, which furthers the goals of TAMU--CC by providing resources to low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented students; in receiving an Outstanding Award, Mr. Bachner was recognized for his academic achievements in the program; and WHEREAS, A five-year veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Bachner retired from service at the rank of sergeant after sustaining an injury during a tour in Afghanistan; he is now studying marine biology as a junior at TAMU--CC, where he is president of the Student Veterans Organization, the veterans senator in the Student Government Association, and the student veteran representative for the Veterans Affairs Committee, and he additionally serves as facilitator of his own veterans peer-to-peer group; he has distinguished himself as a McNair Scholar and an intern in the Smee Marine Ecology Laboratory, and after graduating, he plans to pursue a Ph.D. in evolutionary biology with a research focus on the population genetics and evolution of marine organisms; and WHEREAS, Micah Bachner is indeed deserving of this prestigious honor, and he may look forward to a future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Micah Bachner on his receipt of an SSS-STEM Outstanding Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Bachner as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
