| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The SSS-STEM program is part of the university's |

| 10 | 11 | | furthers the goals of TAMU--CC by providing resources to |

| 11 | 12 | | low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented students; in |

| 12 | 13 | | receiving an Outstanding Award, Mr. Bachner was recognized for his |

| 13 | 14 | | academic achievements in the program; and |

| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, A five-year veteran of the United States Army, |

| 15 | 16 | | Mr. Bachner retired from service at the rank of sergeant after |

| 16 | 17 | | sustaining an injury during a tour in Afghanistan; he is now |

| 17 | 18 | | studying marine biology as a junior at TAMU--CC, where he is |

| 18 | 19 | | president of the Student Veterans Organization, the veterans |

| 19 | 20 | | senator in the Student Government Association, and the student |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | veteran representative for the Veterans Affairs Committee, and he |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | additionally serves as facilitator of his own veterans peer-to-peer |

| 22 | 23 | | group; he has distinguished himself as a McNair Scholar and an |

| 23 | 24 | | intern in the Smee Marine Ecology Laboratory, and after graduating, |

| 24 | 25 | | he plans to pursue a Ph.D. in evolutionary biology with a research |

| 25 | 26 | | focus on the population genetics and evolution of marine organisms; |

| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Micah Bachner is indeed deserving of this |
