No. 2085 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The sitting judges of Midland County are honoring their noteworthy predecessors at the Judicial Heritage Ceremony on May 31, 2017; and WHEREAS, From the early days of our republic, judges have played a major role in defining and preserving the American way of life and the values on which our nation was founded; overseen by judges, the courts provide a means to settle civil disputes based on the rule of law, and they render verdicts in criminal trials and determine punishment; judges preside over a vast range of cases in the course of their duties, and their service is essential to ensuring access to justice for all citizens; and WHEREAS, Midland County residents benefited greatly from the dedicated service of former judges Perry Pickett, Vann Culp, Joseph Mims, Barbara Culver Clack, Pat Baskin, Dean Rucker, John Hyde, Willie DuBose, James Fitz-Gerald III, and Al Walvoord; and WHEREAS, The wisdom and integrity demonstrated by these jurists has been a source of tremendous inspiration to the judges currently serving in the county, including George D. Gilles, Rodney W. Satterwhite, Elizabeth Byer Leonard, Robin Malone Darr, David W. Lindemood, K. Kyle Peeler, and Marvin L. Moore; and WHEREAS, Over the course of their distinguished careers on the bench, the former Midland County judges set a high standard of professionalism that continues to guide their successors, and it is indeed fitting to acknowledge their outstanding contributions to the judiciary and to the community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby honor the former Midland County judges being recognized at the 2017 Judicial Heritage Ceremony and extend to all those participating sincere best wishes for a memorable and enjoyable event; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the former judges as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
