| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The sitting judges of Midland County are honoring |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, From the early days of our republic, judges have |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | played a major role in defining and preserving the American way of |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | life and the values on which our nation was founded; overseen by |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | judges, the courts provide a means to settle civil disputes based on |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | the rule of law, and they render verdicts in criminal trials and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | determine punishment; judges preside over a vast range of cases in |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | the course of their duties, and their service is essential to |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | ensuring access to justice for all citizens; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Midland County residents benefited greatly from the |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | dedicated service of former judges Perry Pickett, Vann Culp, Joseph |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Mims, Barbara Culver Clack, Pat Baskin, Dean Rucker, John Hyde, |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Willie DuBose, James Fitz-Gerald III, and Al Walvoord; and |

| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The wisdom and integrity demonstrated by these |

| 21 | 22 | | jurists has been a source of tremendous inspiration to the judges |

| 22 | 23 | | currently serving in the county, including George D. Gilles, Rodney |

| 23 | 24 | | W. Satterwhite, Elizabeth Byer Leonard, Robin Malone Darr, David W. |

| 24 | 25 | | Lindemood, K. Kyle Peeler, and Marvin L. Moore; and |

| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of their distinguished careers on |

| 26 | 27 | | the bench, the former Midland County judges set a high standard of |

| 27 | 28 | | professionalism that continues to guide their successors, and it is |

| 28 | 29 | | indeed fitting to acknowledge their outstanding contributions to |

| 29 | 30 | | the judiciary and to the community; now, therefore, be it |

| 30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
