| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Hays Consolidated Independent School District |

| 6 | 7 | | celebrated the 50th anniversary of its founding on May 6, 2017; and |
|---|
| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The district was established in 1967 after county |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | voters approved a measure to consolidate the Buda, Kyle, and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Wimberley Independent School Districts; as the region's population |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | has increased, Hays CISD has experienced dramatic growth, expanding |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | from about 1,150 students across a handful of schools to nearly |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | 20,000 students at 23 campuses, including 2 four-year high schools, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | 6 middle schools, 13 elementary schools, an alternative high |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | school, and a disciplinary center; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Through the decades, Hays CISD has remained |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | steadfast in its mission to prepare students for the challenges and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | opportunities of the future, and today it boasts a graduation rate |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | higher than the state average; the district offers an elementary |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | magnet school STEM program and specialized career curricula, and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | both of its comprehensive high schools have earned Project Lead the |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | Way designations for their efforts in encouraging students to |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | pursue computer science, engineering, and biomedical science |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | studies; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Hays CISD students have also excelled in a wide |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | range of extracurricular activities, garnering recognition in |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | band, choir, visual and performing arts, and athletics; in |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | addition, the district's Performing Arts Center features a |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | state-of-the-art sound and video system, two conference rooms, and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | seating for nearly 1,000 people, and it hosts numerous productions |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | and campus and community events year-round; and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Over the past half century, Hays CISD has provided |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | generations of young Texans with a strong academic foundation on |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | which to build, and it is indeed a privilege to join in marking this |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | important milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 36 | 37 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Hays |

| 37 | 38 | | Consolidated Independent School District and extend to its |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | administrators, faculty, staff, and students sincere best wishes |

| 39 | 40 | | for continued success; and, be it further |

| 40 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
