45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Joe Rosas of Mary Carroll High School in Corpus
67 Christi has been named a 2017 Buc Days King Scholar through the Buc
78 Days Youth Leadership Program; and
89 WHEREAS, Affiliated with Rodeo Corpus Christi and the Buc
910 Days Festival, the program accepts 20 seniors each year; the 10 Miss
1011 Buc Days Scholars and 10 Buc Days King Scholars are chosen on the
1112 basis of their academic qualifications, their record of
1213 participation in extracurricular activities, and their performance
1314 in an essay and public speaking competition; and
1415 WHEREAS, During their final semester in high school, the
1516 honorees participate in tours designed to expand their awareness of
1617 educational, career, and service opportunities within their
1718 community and take part in a Dale Carnegie leadership training
1819 program; a total of $37,000 in scholarships is distributed among
1920 the winning students, who are eligible for matching scholarships at
2021 Del Mar Community College, Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi,
2122 and Texas A&M University--Kingsville; and
2223 WHEREAS, A fitting recipient of this notable honor, Joe Rosas
2324 has demonstrated determination and perseverance in the pursuit of
2425 his goals, and he may indeed look forward to a future bright with
2526 promise; now, therefore, be it
2627 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2728 Legislature hereby congratulate Joe Rosas on his selection as a
2829 2017 Buc Days King Scholar and extend to him sincere best wishes for
2930 continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further
3031 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3132 prepared for Mr. Rosas as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3233 House of Representatives.
