 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Matthew Rodriguez of Tuloso-Midway High School in
 Corpus Christi has been named a 2017 Buc Days King Scholar through
 the Buc Days Youth Leadership Program; and
 WHEREAS, Affiliated with Rodeo Corpus Christi and the Buc
 Days Festival, the program accepts 20 seniors each year; the 10 Miss
 Buc Days Scholars and 10 Buc Days King Scholars are chosen on the
 basis of their academic qualifications, their record of
 participation in extracurricular activities, and their performance
 in an essay and public speaking competition; and
 WHEREAS, During their final semester in high school, the
 honorees participate in tours designed to expand their awareness of
 educational, career, and service opportunities within their
 community and take part in a Dale Carnegie leadership training
 program; a total of $37,000 in scholarships is distributed among
 the winning students, who are eligible for matching scholarships at
 Del Mar Community College, Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi,
 and Texas A&M University--Kingsville; and
 WHEREAS, A fitting recipient of this notable honor, Matthew
 Rodriguez has demonstrated determination and perseverance in the
 pursuit of his goals, and he may indeed look forward to a future
 bright with promise; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Matthew Rodriguez on his selection
 as a 2017 Buc Days King Scholar and extend to him sincere best
 wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Rodriguez as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
