H.R. No. 2231 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Nine dedicated mothers and fathers graduated from the Parent University program at Manuel Jara Elementary School in Fort Worth on January 23, 2017; and WHEREAS, Designed to help build stronger families, the initiative aims to equip parents with the tools, skills, and confidence to raise healthy, caring, and responsible children; furthermore, it provides them with a support group in the school community and allows them to further their own education; and WHEREAS, The four-year program was established at Manuel Jara Elementary by Principal Marta Plata, and it begins with a 13-week study of the Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets for Adolescents, a curriculum outlining the building blocks for healthy childhood development; over the course of the subsequent three years, participants receive hands-on practice in applying the methods they've learned, are given the opportunity to pursue continuing education by enrolling at a local community college, and help to train incoming Parent University participants; and WHEREAS, The exceptional individuals who have successfully completed all four years of the program are Rosa Martinez, Francisco Perez, Luz Vallejo, Margarita Hernandez, Arturo Urbina, Anna Urbina, Erminia Moreno, Cynthia Shannon, and Billy Black; and WHEREAS, These parents have demonstrated an inspiring commitment to the success of their children, and in doing so, they have helped to ensure a future bright with promise for the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby commend the graduates of Parent University at Manuel Jara Elementary School and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared for the graduates as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
