| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Mark A. Baker will be taking office as president |

| 6 | 7 | | of the American Osteopathic Association on July 22, 2017, and this |

| 7 | 8 | | provides a fitting opportunity to celebrate his long and |

| 8 | 9 | | distinguished career; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The AOA represents 130,000 osteopathic physicians |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | and medical students, and Dr. Baker is the first Texan to head the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | association since 1985; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The son of an osteopathic physician, Dr. Baker |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | earned his medical degree in 1976 as a member of the third |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | graduating class of the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine; he |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | began his impressive 40-year career by working as an osteopathic |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | family physician, and he later became a board-certified osteopathic |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | radiologist and a Fellow of the American Osteopathic College of |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Radiology; over the years, he has dedicated countless hours to |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | teaching and mentoring the students of his alma mater, which |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | presented him with the Founders' Medal in recognition of his |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | outstanding service; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Committed to the advancement of the field of |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | osteopathy, Dr. Baker has been a part of the AOA House of Delegates |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | for more than a quarter century, serving as speaker of the house |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | from 2000 to 2005, and he was a member of the board of trustees from |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | 2005 to 2017; moreover, he held the office of president of the Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Osteopathic Medical Association from 2001 to 2002; and |

| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, For four decades, Dr. Mark Baker has proven himself |

| 29 | 30 | | a skilled and caring physician and radiologist as well as a leader |

| 30 | 31 | | in his profession, and he may indeed take great pride in his many |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | accomplishments as he takes on the responsibilities of his new |

| 32 | 33 | | position; now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
