5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Alex Napierski is celebrating his 100th birthday on |

6 | 7 | | February 5, 2017, to the delight of a large circle of admirers; and |

7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The youngest child of Polish immigrants, Alex |
---|
8 | 9 | | Napierski was born in Buffalo, New York, in 1917; he came of age |
---|
9 | 10 | | during World War II, and because a perforated eardrum precluded |
---|
10 | 11 | | military service, he contributed to the war effort by building |
---|
11 | 12 | | aircraft for defense contractor Curtiss-Wright Corporation; while |
---|
12 | 13 | | working there, he met the love of his life, Florence; they married |
---|
13 | 14 | | after a long courtship and became the proud parents of three |
---|
14 | 15 | | children, Elizabeth, Theresa, and Robert; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Napierski later joined Trico Windshield Wipers |
---|
16 | 17 | | as a machine repairman; according to his supervisors and coworkers, |
---|
17 | 18 | | he was unsurpassed in his skill, and he was employed by the company |
---|
18 | 19 | | for four decades before his retirement; and |
---|
19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, A true family man, he helped care for his mother |
---|
20 | 21 | | after she suffered medical problems, and he devoted himself to the |
---|
21 | 22 | | well-being of Robert, who was born with Down syndrome; |
---|
22 | 23 | | Mr. Napierski also played a special role in the lives of his nephews |
---|
23 | 24 | | and nieces, who adored him for his youthful enthusiasm and |
---|
24 | 25 | | practical jokes; and |
---|
25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Napierski was very involved at Robert's school, |
---|
26 | 27 | | the Cantilician Center; while living in Buffalo, he was active in |
---|
27 | 28 | | his church and various Catholic organizations, including the Holy |
---|
28 | 29 | | Name Society and the St. Vincent de Paul Society; he and his wife |
---|
29 | 30 | | shared a fulfilling marriage of 42 years, and after her passing in |
---|
30 | 31 | | 1982, Mr. Napierski became the sole caregiver for Robert; in 2015, |
---|
31 | 32 | | he moved to Texas with his son to be closer to his daughter, |
---|
32 | 33 | | Theresa; he is now surrounded by four generations of his treasured |
---|
33 | 34 | | family; and |
---|
34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Sustained by his faith, Mr. Napierski continues to |
---|
35 | 36 | | attend church weekly; he still loves to dance and sing the songs of |
---|
36 | 37 | | his youth, and he attributes his longevity to clean living, a strong |
---|
37 | 38 | | prayer life, and staying active; and |
---|
38 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Alex Napierski has met life's challenges with |
---|
39 | 40 | | resilience, optimism, and determination, and he holds a special |
---|
40 | 41 | | place in the hearts of all who are fortunate enough to know him; |
---|
41 | 42 | | now, therefore, be it |

42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

43 | 44 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Alex Napierski on the occasion of |

44 | 45 | | his 100th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
