5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family, friends, and colleagues are mourning the |

6 | 7 | | loss of Linda Cottar of Baytown, who passed away on May 10, 2017, at |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born on August 20, 1945, in Corsicana, the former |

9 | 10 | | Linda Matthews was the daughter of Arvine and Anita Matthews; an |
---|
10 | 11 | | alumna of Corsicana High School, she went on to graduate from Lee |
---|
11 | 12 | | College in 1965 before beginning a career as a Realtor and broker in |
---|
12 | 13 | | the Baytown area that would span more than 40 years; along the way, |
---|
13 | 14 | | she served as a teacher and mentor to numerous others during her |
---|
14 | 15 | | time as a real estate instructor at San Jacinto College and Kaplan |
---|
15 | 16 | | Professional Schools, and she further served her professional |
---|
16 | 17 | | community as part of HAR's Bay Area Political Affairs Leadership |
---|
17 | 18 | | advisory group; moreover, she was a longtime board member for the |
---|
18 | 19 | | Baytown Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Pilot Club of |
---|
19 | 20 | | Baytown, a community service organization; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Deeply committed to her faith, Ms. Cottar was a |
---|
21 | 22 | | member of First Baptist Church Pasadena and taught Sunday school |
---|
22 | 23 | | for over 25 years at Cedar Bayou Baptist Church; alongside her in |
---|
23 | 24 | | all her endeavors was her husband of more than 50 years, Tom Cottar, |
---|
24 | 25 | | and she cherished her role as a loving mother to their two sons, Tom |
---|
25 | 26 | | and Shae, and a doting grandmother to their six grandchildren, |
---|
26 | 27 | | Aidan, Darien, Olivia, Dylan, Evan, and Makayla; Ms. Cottar's life |
---|
27 | 28 | | was further enriched by the affection and companionship of a host of |

28 | 29 | | dear friends, to whom she was always willing to lend a helping hand |

29 | 30 | | when needed; and |
---|
30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Beloved for her kindness, her strength, and her |

31 | 32 | | generosity of spirit, Linda Cottar touched the lives of many during |
---|
32 | 33 | | her journey on this earth, and all who were blessed to know her will |

33 | 34 | | forever hold her close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |

34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

35 | 36 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Linda Cottar and |

36 | 37 | | extend sincere sympathy to her many relatives and friends; and, be |
