 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The Amarillo Area Foundation is celebrating its 60th
 anniversary in 2017, and this occasion provides a fitting
 opportunity to reflect on the many contributions this notable
 organization has made to its community; and
 WHEREAS, Established in 1957, the Amarillo Area Foundation
 was designed to address the health care needs of residents of the
 Texas Panhandle; in service to that commendable goal, AAF founded
 the Harrington Regional Medical Center in Amarillo, which has
 become a world-class facility specializing in a wide range of
 services; and
 WHEREAS, As the needs of the community changed over the
 years, the foundation expanded its mission and began offering
 grants to improve the overall quality of life in the Panhandle; in
 the 1970s, the organization's first scholarship fund was created to
 support area students in pursuing higher education; the group
 received the most significant gift in its history in 1988 from the
 Don and Sybil Harrington Foundation, which allowed AAF to expand
 its programs; in the 1990s and 2000s, it took on additional
 philanthropic responsibilities beyond fund-raising and grant
 making, and its Nonprofit Service Center currently facilitates a
 variety of successful programs and initiatives in collaboration
 with other nonprofits in the region; and
 WHEREAS, Today, the combined assets of AAF and its public
 supporting organization, the Don and Sybil Harrington Foundation,
 total over $220 million; together, the foundations have provided
 grants in excess of $140 million, and AAF consistently ranks in the
 top 50 percent in total assets among the more than 760 community
 foundations in the nation; and
 WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Amarillo Area Foundation
 has made a meaningful difference in the lives of countless Texans,
 and it is a pleasure to join in recognizing this outstanding
 organization and the individuals who have invested their time and
 resources to ensure its success; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby honor the Amarillo Area Foundation on its 60th
 anniversary and extend to all those associated with the group
 sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the foundation as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
