| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Amarillo Area Foundation is celebrating its 60th |

| 6 | 7 | | anniversary in 2017, and this occasion provides a fitting |
|---|
| 7 | 8 | | opportunity to reflect on the many contributions this notable |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | organization has made to its community; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1957, the Amarillo Area Foundation |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | was designed to address the health care needs of residents of the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Texas Panhandle; in service to that commendable goal, AAF founded |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | the Harrington Regional Medical Center in Amarillo, which has |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | become a world-class facility specializing in a wide range of |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | services; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, As the needs of the community changed over the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | years, the foundation expanded its mission and began offering |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | grants to improve the overall quality of life in the Panhandle; in |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | the 1970s, the organization's first scholarship fund was created to |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | support area students in pursuing higher education; the group |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | received the most significant gift in its history in 1988 from the |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | Don and Sybil Harrington Foundation, which allowed AAF to expand |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | its programs; in the 1990s and 2000s, it took on additional |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | philanthropic responsibilities beyond fund-raising and grant |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | making, and its Nonprofit Service Center currently facilitates a |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | variety of successful programs and initiatives in collaboration |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | with other nonprofits in the region; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Today, the combined assets of AAF and its public |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | supporting organization, the Don and Sybil Harrington Foundation, |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | total over $220 million; together, the foundations have provided |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | grants in excess of $140 million, and AAF consistently ranks in the |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | top 50 percent in total assets among the more than 760 community |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | foundations in the nation; and |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Amarillo Area Foundation |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | has made a meaningful difference in the lives of countless Texans, |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | and it is a pleasure to join in recognizing this outstanding |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | organization and the individuals who have invested their time and |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | resources to ensure its success; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby honor the Amarillo Area Foundation on its 60th |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | anniversary and extend to all those associated with the group |
|---|
| 41 | 42 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |

| 42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

|---|
