No. 2314 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Trang-Thu Duong has ably served residents of Texas as a policy analyst in the office of State Representative Gene Wu during the 85th Legislative Session; and WHEREAS, Since joining the staff, "Mimi" Duong has provided vital assistance in handling a wide variety of challenging tasks, and she has been particularly instrumental in advancing the representative's child welfare policy reforms, including those seeking to protect vulnerable children, reduce trauma, and improve reunification efforts for families; in addition, she has diligently reviewed and managed legislation referred to the house committees on Human Services, Economic Development, and Public Health; over the course of the session, she has gained valuable experience in the field of public service and learned more about the legislative process and the issues facing citizens of the Lone Star State; and WHEREAS, An alumna of the University of Houston, Ms. Duong earned a bachelor's degree in sociology and creative writing and a master's degree in social work; she also completed graduate level work in applied community and economic development at Illinois State University; and WHEREAS, Passionate about social justice and the welfare of children, Ms. Duong worked in rural youth development in Ouarzazate, Morocco, as a member of the U.S. Peace Corps, and she has held positions with the Child Welfare Education Project, the Women's Home, the Alliance for Multicultural Community Services, and Radio Saigon Houston; moreover, she has volunteered with a number of worthy organizations, including the American Civil Liberties Union of Texas, OCA, United We Dream, and Child Advocates; and WHEREAS, This noteworthy Texan has performed her duties as a policy analyst with skill and dedication, and she is indeed deserving of special recognition for her fine work; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby commend Trang-Thu Duong for her service as a policy analyst in the office of State Representative Gene Wu and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Duong as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
