 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Rene Vasquez has built a notable career in sports
 broadcasting that has spanned three decades; and
 WHEREAS, Born in Corpus Christi and raised in Bluebonnet,
 Rene Vasquez began announcing little league baseball games at the
 age of 10, and several years later, while attending Seale Junior
 High School in Robstown, he got his start in radio at the
 Bishop-based station KFLZ-FM; there, he assisted in calling both
 the 1987 and 1988 University Interscholastic League 4A baseball
 state semifinals, which featured his future alma mater, Robstown
 High School; and
 WHEREAS, In 1989, Mr. Vasquez joined the staff of what is now
 Majic 104.9 FM, where he earned the moniker "Locker Room"; in the
 years since, he has provided insightful coverage of area high
 school baseball, softball, and football teams, a number of whose
 student-athletes have gone on to professional careers in sports; he
 is also known for his illuminating interviews with such figures as
 Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith, Houston Astros
 president Reid Ryan, and legendary Texas Longhorns coach Cliff
 Gustafson; and
 WHEREAS, For the past 30 years, this mainstay of the Coastal
 Bend airwaves has informed and entertained countless area sports
 fans, and he is indeed deserving of special recognition for his many
 years of service to South Texas sports; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Rene Vasquez for his exceptional 30-year
 career in sports broadcasting and extend to him sincere best wishes
 for continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Vasquez as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
