No. 2331 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their memories of Eustacio Rodriguez Sr. of Austin, who died on May 13, 2017, at the age of 82; and WHEREAS, "Ernest" Rodriguez was born in Bartlett on December 1, 1934, to Eustacio and Fortunata Rodriguez, and he grew up in Austin; he met his future wife, Hope, at Woolworth's in 1956, and the couple shared their lives for nearly six decades, until his death; and WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Rodriguez served in the National Guard for 16 years, and during the Cuban Missile Crisis, he was called to active duty in the U.S. Army; he also enjoyed a successful career as an optician that spanned more than 40 years; and WHEREAS, A man of strong religious faith, Mr. Rodriguez was an active member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, where he coached the congregation's softball team; known affectionately as "Postero" to his friends, he delighted in simple pleasures, especially the time he spent with his children and grandchildren; he was also an avid, lifelong supporter of The University of Texas Longhorns and attended hundreds of games and events over the course of his life; and WHEREAS, A loving husband and a devoted father and grandfather, Ernest Rodriguez lived a rich and purposeful life, and those who were fortunate enough to share in his affection and friendship will forever hold him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Eustacio Rodriguez Sr. and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Esperanza Rodriguez; to his sons, Eustacio Rodriguez Jr. and his wife, Cindy, Ronald Rodriguez, and Maurice Rodriguez and his wife, Lindsie; to his daughters, Suzanne Subia and Elizabeth Flores and her husband, Daniel; to his brothers, Eleazar Rodriguez and his wife, Adelina, Eliseo Rodriguez and his wife, Eudelia, and David Davilla and his wife, Kala; to his sister, Elizabeth Garcia; to his eight grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Eustacio Rodriguez Sr.
