| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, July 15, 2017, marks the 65th wedding anniversary of |

| 6 | 7 | | Jim and Joan McLaughlin of El Paso, and this joyous event provides a |

| 7 | 8 | | fitting opportunity to reflect on their rewarding journey together |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | as husband and wife; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Jim McLaughlin and the former Joan Donovan were |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | joined in matrimony on that memorable day in 1952 at New Post Chapel |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | at Fort Sill, Oklahoma; over the years, they have watched their |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | treasured family grow to include five children, Jim McLaughlin Jr. |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | and his wife, Kathy, Robert McLaughlin and his wife, Colleen, Kathy |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | McLaughlin, Laurie O'Beirne and her husband, Patrick, and Mauri |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Howell and her husband, David, and they have welcomed 14 beloved |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | grandchildren into their lives; and |

| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Valued residents of El Paso for more than 50 years, |

| 18 | 19 | | the couple have given generously of their time and talents to many |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | local civic organizations; Mr. McLaughlin retired from the U.S. |

| 20 | 21 | | Army as a lieutenant colonel, and his efforts in behalf of his |

| 21 | 22 | | fellow Texans have included chairing the El Paso Mountain |

| 22 | 23 | | Committee, starting the Central District Civic Association, and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | serving the William Beaumont Army Medical Center Catholic Church |

| 24 | 25 | | community; additionally, he has chaired the El Paso Police |

| 25 | 26 | | Department's Citizen Advisory Commission and held membership on the |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Civic Center board; Mrs. McLaughlin has contributed to the |

| 27 | 28 | | important work of such groups as the Assistance League of El Paso, |

| 28 | 29 | | the Woman's Club of El Paso, and the Women's Chamber of Commerce; |

| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, The six and a half decades of marriage that Mr. and |

| 31 | 32 | | Mrs. McLaughlin have shared is eloquent affirmation of the meaning |

| 32 | 33 | | of love and commitment, and their enduring union is an inspiration |

| 33 | 34 | | to all who know them; now, therefore, be it |

| 34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
