| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The untimely death of Dedré Plesshette Jefferson of |

| 6 | 7 | | Sugar Land on December 16, 2016, at the age of 48, has profoundly |

| 7 | 8 | | saddened the colleagues, students, and loved ones of this |

| 8 | 9 | | remarkable woman; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Dedré Jefferson was born on September 23, 1968, in |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Wiesbaden, Germany, to Walter and Ella Caple Jefferson; a proud |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | graduate of the Alief Independent School District in Houston, she |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | went on to enjoy a 20-year teaching career and was serving as a |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | senior career and technical education specialist for Houston ISD at |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | the time of her passing; in 2015, she successfully ran for a seat on |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | the Alief ISD Board of Trustees, following in the footsteps of her |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | mother, a former member of the board; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Jefferson was a devoted mother to her son, |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Blake, as well as a caring mentor to countless young people whom she |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | encountered through her work; admired for her radiant smile and her |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | irrepressible can-do attitude, she continuously sought ways to |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | support and encourage everyone around her; in addition to her |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | rapport with others in the teaching profession, she maintained |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | close bonds with her sisters in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and she |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | was also a faithful congregant of Southwest Community Baptist |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Church; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Through the kindness and love that she shared, Dedré |

| 27 | 28 | | Jefferson brought a light to the world that can never be |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | extinguished, and she will forever hold a cherished place in the |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | hearts of those who held her dear; now, therefore, be it |

| 30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 31 | 32 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dedré Plesshette |

| 32 | 33 | | Jefferson and extend deepest condolences to all those who mourn her |
