45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Words cannot express the sorrow felt at the loss of
67 Fort Bend County Constable Ruben Davis, who died on October 18,
78 2016, at the age of 61; and
89 WHEREAS, Ruben George Davis Jr. was born in Houston on August
910 18, 1955, to Ruben George Davis Sr. and Lola Mae Bolton Davis; after
1011 graduating from Worthing High School, he attended the Houston
1112 Police Department Academy, where he met his future wife, Sharon Ann
1213 Sherman; the couple were married in 1976, and they became the proud
1314 parents of two daughters, Robin Davis and the late Traneka Michelle
1415 Davis; and
1516 WHEREAS, Mr. Davis began his career in law enforcement as a
1617 member of the Houston Police Department, where he served for 21
1718 years before retiring at the rank of senior supervisor; in 1996, he
1819 was elected as the Fort Bend County constable for Precinct 2, and he
1920 continued to hold that office for the next two decades, carrying out
2021 his duties with skill and integrity until his passing; and
2122 WHEREAS, Constable Davis earned his bachelor's degree in
2223 criminal justice from the University of Houston and his master's
2324 degree in counseling from Prairie View A&M University; certified as
2425 a master peace officer, police academy and D.A.R.E. instructor, and
2526 crime prevention specialist, he taught criminal justice as an
2627 adjunct instructor for the Houston Community College System; and
2728 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan constantly sought out ways in
2829 which he might give back to his community and his profession; he
2930 founded the Community Council of Fort Bend, and he served on the
3031 Fort Bend County Criminal Justice Grant Board, the University of
3132 Houston System at Sugar Land Advisory Board, and the National
3233 Diversity Forum Board; he was also a past president of the Houston
3334 Chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement
3435 Executives and a board member of the African American Police
3536 Officers League, the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department,
3637 and the Fort Bend County YMCA; and
3738 WHEREAS, A loving husband and father, a man of deep religious
3839 faith, and an exemplary public servant, Ruben Davis leaves behind
3940 an example of devotion to duty and compassion for others that will
4041 continue to inspire all those who knew and loved him; now,
4142 therefore, be it
4243 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
4344 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Ruben George Davis
4445 Jr. and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family and
4546 to his many friends; and, be it further
4647 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4748 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4849 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ruben
4950 George Davis Jr.
