6 | 7 | | Fort Bend County Constable Ruben Davis, who died on October 18, |

7 | 8 | | 2016, at the age of 61; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Ruben George Davis Jr. was born in Houston on August |
---|
9 | 10 | | 18, 1955, to Ruben George Davis Sr. and Lola Mae Bolton Davis; after |
---|
10 | 11 | | graduating from Worthing High School, he attended the Houston |
---|
11 | 12 | | Police Department Academy, where he met his future wife, Sharon Ann |
---|
12 | 13 | | Sherman; the couple were married in 1976, and they became the proud |
---|
13 | 14 | | parents of two daughters, Robin Davis and the late Traneka Michelle |
---|
14 | 15 | | Davis; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Davis began his career in law enforcement as a |
---|
16 | 17 | | member of the Houston Police Department, where he served for 21 |
---|
17 | 18 | | years before retiring at the rank of senior supervisor; in 1996, he |
---|
18 | 19 | | was elected as the Fort Bend County constable for Precinct 2, and he |
---|
19 | 20 | | continued to hold that office for the next two decades, carrying out |
---|
20 | 21 | | his duties with skill and integrity until his passing; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Constable Davis earned his bachelor's degree in |
---|
22 | 23 | | criminal justice from the University of Houston and his master's |
---|
23 | 24 | | degree in counseling from Prairie View A&M University; certified as |
---|
24 | 25 | | a master peace officer, police academy and D.A.R.E. instructor, and |
---|
25 | 26 | | crime prevention specialist, he taught criminal justice as an |
---|
26 | 27 | | adjunct instructor for the Houston Community College System; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan constantly sought out ways in |
---|
28 | 29 | | which he might give back to his community and his profession; he |
---|
29 | 30 | | founded the Community Council of Fort Bend, and he served on the |
---|
30 | 31 | | Fort Bend County Criminal Justice Grant Board, the University of |
---|
31 | 32 | | Houston System at Sugar Land Advisory Board, and the National |
---|
32 | 33 | | Diversity Forum Board; he was also a past president of the Houston |
---|
33 | 34 | | Chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement |
---|
34 | 35 | | Executives and a board member of the African American Police |
---|
35 | 36 | | Officers League, the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department, |
---|
36 | 37 | | and the Fort Bend County YMCA; and |
---|
37 | 38 | | WHEREAS, A loving husband and father, a man of deep religious |
---|
38 | 39 | | faith, and an exemplary public servant, Ruben Davis leaves behind |
---|
39 | 40 | | an example of devotion to duty and compassion for others that will |

40 | 41 | | continue to inspire all those who knew and loved him; now, |

42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

43 | 44 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Ruben George Davis |

44 | 45 | | Jr. and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family and |
