H.R. No. 2496 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Through its work to support funding for research on eating disorders, the Morgan Foundation is pursuing a mission with the potential to save lives; and WHEREAS, Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate among all mental illnesses; every 62 minutes, at least one person dies as a direct result of an eating disorder, and there are currently around 30 million people, including individuals of all ages, genders, and ethnic groups, who have suffered from or are currently battling an eating disorder in the United States; and WHEREAS, The Morgan Foundation was established after the tragic passing of 23-year-old Morgan Claire Dunn of Dallas on October 30, 2016; honoring her memory, the foundation works to secure grant funding for research into the biological and neurological causes of severe eating disorders; additionally, the foundation endeavors to raise public awareness of the need for organ and tissue donation for the purpose of studying this vital issue; and WHEREAS, Eating disorders inflict a devastating toll on the lives of victims and all those who love and care for them, but through its dedicated efforts, the Morgan Foundation is giving sufferers and their families hope for a brighter future; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby honor the Morgan Foundation for its work to improve research on eating disorders and extend to the Dunn family and their associates sincere best wishes for success in advancing this important cause; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the foundation as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
