| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

| 6 | 7 | | passing of Henry Albert Phillips Jr. on July 1, 2016, at the age of |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Hank Phillips was born in Providence, Rhode Island, |

| 9 | 10 | | on April 6, 1921, to Henry and Freda Phillips; a graduate of East |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Providence High School, he was working at a local steel mill when |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | the attack on Pearl Harbor brought the United States into World War |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | II, and soon thereafter he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps; he |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | was deployed overseas in September 1943, and over the next year, he |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | piloted 150 missions across the Himalayas, for which he was |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | accorded two Distinguished Flying Crosses and six other medals; he |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | continued his military career after the war, serving on 14 bases |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | across the United States before retiring from the air force in 1962; |

| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, After returning to civilian life, Mr. Phillips |

| 20 | 21 | | enjoyed a career as a data systems manager for the City of Tampa, |

| 21 | 22 | | Florida, that spanned a decade and a half; in retirement, he became |

| 22 | 23 | | an avid golfer and went on to win the 1978 Florida State Golf |

| 23 | 24 | | Association Senior Four-Ball Championship as well as a host of |

| 24 | 25 | | other golf tournaments around the nation; in addition, he found |

| 25 | 26 | | time to recount his breadth of experiences in his 2012 |

| 26 | 27 | | autobiography, Commander in the Sky; and |

| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Phillips married the love of his life, the |

| 28 | 29 | | former Ollie Twilley, on February 15, 1945, and over the course of |

| 29 | 30 | | more than seven decades together, the couple were blessed with a |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | fine family that included three daughters, Tricia Browne-Ferrigno, |

| 31 | 32 | | Deborah MacIntosh, and Pamella Anderson, as well as five |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | grandchildren, Allison, Parke, Phillip, Shawn, and Paige, and three |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | great-grandchildren, James, Katherine, and Arden; and |

| 34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Coming of age during World War II, Hank Phillips |

| 35 | 36 | | possessed the courage and initiative that defined the finest |

| 36 | 37 | | members of that generation, and he leaves behind a record of service |

| 37 | 38 | | that his loved ones can remember with pride; now, therefore, be it |
