45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, E. Bruce Curry is retiring as district attorney for
67 the 216th Judicial District on January 1, 2017, concluding a
78 distinguished tenure that has spanned more than three decades; and
89 WHEREAS, One of the longest-serving district attorneys in the
910 state, Mr. Curry was first elected in 1984; at that time, his office
1011 had a sole staff member, a secretary, but additional employees were
1112 hired as population growth in the Hill Country led to an
1213 increasingly heavy court docket; Mr. Curry has personally
1314 prosecuted a variety of cases, ranging from felony theft and drugs
1415 to organized crime, kidnapping, and capital murders; moreover, he
1516 has represented the state in multiple habeas corpus proceedings,
1617 and several of his appellate cases are frequently cited as
1718 precedent throughout the state; and
1819 WHEREAS, Mr. Curry, a Lubbock native, completed his
1920 bachelor's degree at The University of Texas at Austin and
2021 graduated from the UT School of Law in 1971; he served as an
2122 assistant attorney general before moving to Kerrville in 1976 to
2223 open a private practice; soon thereafter, he was appointed
2324 Kerrville municipal court judge, and he subsequently won election
2425 as justice of the peace; and
2526 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Curry enjoys the love and
2627 support of his wife, Sharon, and their family, which has grown to
2728 include three children and their spouses, Eddie and Rebecca Lewis,
2829 David and Karen Curry, and Otis and Sarah Daniels, as well as five
2930 grandchildren, Zack, Isabella, Dylan, Taylor, and Emersyn; and
3031 WHEREAS, Bruce Curry has greatly benefited his fellow
3132 citizens through his outstanding professional accomplishments, and
3233 as he prepares to embark on the next exciting chapter of his life,
3334 he may take justifiable pride in his contributions to the 216th
3435 Judicial District; now, therefore, be it
3536 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3637 Legislature hereby congratulate E. Bruce Curry on his retirement as
3738 district attorney of the 216th Judicial District and extend to him
3839 sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
3940 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4041 prepared for Mr. Curry as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4142 House of Representatives.
