56 WHEREAS, April 1, 2018, marks the celebration of Easter,
67 which is considered the most holy day of the year in the Christian

89 WHEREAS, Known also as Resurrection Day, Easter is a time
910 when people around the globe recognize the day that Jesus Christ of
1011 Nazareth rose from the grave and reflect with joy on the gospel's
1112 enduring message of rebirth; and
1213 WHEREAS, In the weeks before the sacred event, many
1314 Christians observe a 40-day period of fasting and prayer, known as
1415 Lent; Holy Week then commemorates Christ's final days on earth and
1516 crucifixion by Roman authorities, remembered solemnly on Good
1617 Friday and followed by Easter Sunday; and
1718 WHEREAS, Many families and loved ones gather together during
1819 this special time to worship and to express gratitude for the
1920 miracle of Christ's ascension; the festivities symbolize new life
2021 and hope for the future, themes that parallel spring, the season in
2122 which the holiday falls; and
2223 WHEREAS, Observed for more than 2,000 years, the Easter
2324 holiday ushers in a period of joy and renewal, signifying one of the
2425 fundamental pillars of faith for the Christian community, the
2526 resurrection of Christ; now, therefore, be it
2627 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2728 Legislature hereby commemorate Easter 2018.
