| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, John Lavender retired as the Kerr County constable |

| 6 | 7 | | for Precinct 1 in December 2016, drawing to a close an outstanding |

| 7 | 8 | | career in law enforcement that spanned nearly three decades; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in the Texas Panhandle, Mr. Lavender moved to |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Kerr County in 1969 to become a vocational auto mechanics teacher at |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Tivy High School; during his 30 years as an educator, he pursued his |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | interest in law enforcement by enrolling in a summer police academy |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | at Sul Ross State University, and in 1988 he took a part-time job as |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | a patrol deputy for the Kerr County Sheriff's Office; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, After retiring from teaching in 1999, Mr. Lavender |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | began working full-time at the sheriff's office, where he served as |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | a patrol sergeant and evidence officer; in 2005, he earned master |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | peace officer certification, and two years later, he was appointed |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | constable for Precinct 1, a position for which he successfully |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | sought election in 2008 and 2012; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In his retirement, Mr. Lavender plans to travel and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | to spend more time with his wife of 43 years, Rosa, as well as with |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | their three children, six grandchildren, and seven |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | great-grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, John Lavender's mastery of his chosen vocation and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | his deep dedication to public service have greatly benefited the |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | citizens of Kerr County, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | career well spent as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | life; now, therefore, be it |

| 29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 30 | 31 | | Legislature hereby congratulate John Lavender on his retirement as |

| 31 | 32 | | Kerr County constable and extend to him sincere best wishes for the |
