| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Fourth of July gatherings are a beloved American |

| 9 | 10 | | tradition, when individuals across the United States pause to |

| 10 | 11 | | remember the countless struggles and triumphs of those who worked |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | to build a government of the people, by the people, and for the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | people; these celebrations bring together citizens of many |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | different backgrounds who all take pride in the American identity, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | one embodying cherished ideals of freedom and equality; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, From the colonial militias who carried muskets into |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | battle to the heroic men and women who serve in the U.S. armed |

| 17 | 18 | | forces today, our military personnel have made incalculable |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | sacrifices in order to secure the dream envisioned by the nation's |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | founders; we owe a profound debt of gratitude to our troops for |

| 20 | 21 | | their selfless and courageous service, as well as to their families |

| 21 | 22 | | for all they have endured, and on this special day we extend our |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | heartfelt appreciation to all those in uniform and to their loved |

| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, When the delegates to the Continental Congress made |

| 25 | 26 | | their famous declaration in 1776, they laid the foundation for a |

| 26 | 27 | | republic dedicated to the cause of just self-governance and charted |

| 27 | 28 | | a bold new course for the land they called home; as Texans gather to |

| 28 | 29 | | celebrate Independence Day 2018, we will pledge anew to uphold the |

| 30 | 31 | | birth and to treasure the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit |
