45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Every year on Patriot Day, Americans reflect on the
67 tragic events of September 11, 2001, honoring the thousands of
78 innocent people who were killed and the many thousands more who
89 joined together in the wake of catastrophe to protect, comfort, and
910 serve the residents of this great nation; and
1011 WHEREAS, On that infamous September morning, 19 terrorists
1112 hijacked four civilian aircraft and perpetrated one of the most
1213 horrific crimes in American history; two of the planes were used to
1314 bring down the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York
1415 City while another targeted the Pentagon; the fourth airplane,
1516 United Flight 93, crashed in the Pennsylvania countryside thanks to
1617 the heroic resistance of its passengers; and
1718 WHEREAS, All told, nearly 3,000 people died as a result of
1819 those attacks, including more than 400 New York first responders,
1920 184 individuals at the Pentagon, and the 40 passengers of Flight 93;
2021 and
2122 WHEREAS, In the months following the attacks, the Congress of
2223 the United States passed a joint resolution designating September
2324 11 as Patriot Day; on that day, Americans pause for a moment of
2425 silence, during which we remember those we have lost, pay tribute to
2526 those who have fought and sacrificed to defend our way of life, and
2627 renew our commitment to our neighbors, our ideals, and our country;
2728 now, therefore, be it
2829 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2930 Legislature hereby commemorate Patriot Day 2018 in memory of all
3031 who were killed or injured on September 11, 2001, and in honor of
3132 the nation's first responders and military service members.
